Saturday, February 10, 2007 is Chinese New Year, and it is finally the Year of the Pig!

Legend has it that in ancient times, Buddha asked all the animals to meet with him on Chinese New Year. Only twelve came. (The rest ate the invitation or had a previous engagement.) Buddha then named a year after each animal present, announcing that people born in each animal's year would have some of that animal's personality. Those born in pig years tend to have excellent manners, make and keep friends, work very hard, appreciate luxury, and be prone to blurting "oooh, do you smell that?" They are very loving and make loyal partners, though they can be hard on the carpet.
